The gamingGKeys feature exposes control over the dedicated G-key row found on
Logitech gaming keyboards. G-keys are programmable macro or shortcut keys
separate from the standard key matrix; this feature lets a host query how many
G-keys the device has, read their current assignments, and map them to actions
or macro payloads stored in device memory. It is relevant exclusively to gaming
keyboards that physically include a G-key column and therefore does not apply to
mice, headsets, touchpads, or receivers.
Not implemented in OpenLogi
OpenLogi's vendored hidpp crate does not provide a typed wrapper for this feature yet. The notes below summarise the HID++ feature in general terms, not OpenLogi behaviour.
What it does
- Capability discovery — provides a function to query the number of G-keys present on the device and any associated mode or profile constraints.
- Key assignment read/write — allows the host to read the current binding for each G-key and write new assignments (macro reference, keystroke, or media action).
- Profile awareness — G-key assignments are typically profile-scoped; the feature may expose functions to select which profile's bindings are active, coordinating with companion features such as 0x8020 gamingMKeys for M-key mode selection.
- Event reporting — when a G-key is pressed or released the device can emit HID++ events so the host can act on the input in software rather than relying solely on onboard macro playback.
- Onboard vs. host mode — the feature may support toggling between fully onboard execution of macros and a host-driven mode where the software intercepts each G-key event.
