OpenLogi

Scrolling

Tune physical-wheel smoothing and sensitivity, per-device wheel behavior, and native thumb-wheel directions.

OpenLogi separates host-side physical-wheel behavior from settings written to a specific mouse. This keeps trackpad scrolling native while letting you smooth or scale a traditional wheel, invert one mouse, and tune a thumb wheel. For the ratchet / free-spin feel of the main wheel, see SmartShift.

Physical wheel and trackpad

Open Settings → General for the app-wide controls:

  • Smooth scrolling replaces eligible physical mouse-wheel ticks with a finite scroll animation. It is off by default.
  • Vertical scroll sensitivity scales the distance of traditional vertical wheel input on a 1–100 scale; 14 is 1×. It applies even when smooth scrolling is off.

Continuous pixel input from a native trackpad is neither smoothed nor scaled. On macOS, OpenLogi also requires a known Logitech source before intercepting a wheel event; other sources pass through.

Per-device main wheel

Select a mouse and open Pointer. The wheel controls are capability-gated:

  • Invert scroll direction — reverses this mouse's wheel without touching the system-wide setting, so a trackpad can keep natural scrolling while the mouse scrolls the traditional way. It is applied through the device's native HID++ wheel inversion, so the card greys out for devices that don't report support for it.
  • Wheel resolution — Device default (OpenLogi doesn't change it), Standard (one scroll report per physical ratchet step), or High resolution (finer reports between ratchet steps), backed by HID++ 0x2121 hiResWheel.

Both values are stored in the config and re-applied over HID++ when the device reconnects. They are separate from smooth scrolling and vertical sensitivity.

Thumb wheel

On MX-line mice the horizontal thumb wheel is its own control:

  • ThumbwheelScrollUp / ThumbwheelScrollDown bind each rotation direction, and Thumbwheel names its capacitive tap. Native rotation is normalized across models: physical up/forward scrolls left, and physical down/backward scrolls right.
  • Thumb Wheel Sensitivity scales that scroll on a 1–100 scale, app-wide in Settings → General and per device from the SmartShift panel. It also changes how readily custom discrete wheel actions trigger.

The wheel keeps scrolling natively until you give OpenLogi a reason to take it over: it is diverted over HID++ 0x2150 only once the sensitivity leaves its default (14) or one of its bindings diverges from the default.

Thumbwheel is a capacitive contact report, not a deliberate mechanical click. Its default is Do Nothing, and the GUI intentionally has no control for it because incidental thumb contact can report taps while rolling. Bind it by hand only if you accept those accidental triggers.

In the config

[app_settings]
smooth_scroll = true
vertical_scroll_sensitivity = 20  # 1–100; 14 is 1×
thumbwheel_sensitivity = 14       # app-wide thumb-wheel default

[devices."unit:6be9d300"]
invert_scroll = true
scroll_resolution = "high" # "low", "high", or omit for the device default
thumbwheel_sensitivity = 30       # per-device override of the app-wide value

[devices."unit:6be9d300".bindings]
ThumbwheelScrollUp = "HorizontalScrollLeft"
ThumbwheelScrollDown = "HorizontalScrollRight"
# Optional and intentionally absent by default:
# Thumbwheel = "AppExpose"

Status: macOS + Linux + Windows, on devices that expose the matching HID++ features. See 0x2121 hiResWheel and 0x2150 thumbwheel for the protocol detail.
