Host-side control over force-feedback actuators in gaming peripherals — discover supported effect types, create and manage effects, and control playback gain and autocenter strength.
The forceFeedback feature provides host-side control over force-feedback
actuators built into Logitech gaming peripherals — most commonly racing wheels,
flight sticks, and gamepads that contain motors or resistance mechanisms designed
to simulate physical sensations such as road texture, recoil, or spring
centering. It is not relevant to mice, keyboards, headsets, or receivers that
lack such actuators. Where a device also exposes onboard profiles via 0x8100
onboardProfiles, force-feedback effect parameters may be stored as part of those
profiles, but 0x8123 itself handles the real-time command and configuration
path for the actuator hardware.
Not implemented in OpenLogi
OpenLogi's vendored hidpp crate does not provide a typed wrapper for this feature yet. The notes below summarise the HID++ feature in general terms, not OpenLogi behaviour.
What it does
- Capability discovery — provides a way to query which force-feedback effect types the device supports (for example constant force, spring, damper, periodic waveforms) and the number of independent actuator axes available.
- Effect management — allows the host to create, modify, and destroy force-feedback effects, controlling parameters such as magnitude, direction, duration, and envelope shaping (attack, sustain, fade).
- Playback control — exposes functions to start, stop, and pause individual effects or all effects at once, and to set a global gain or autocenter strength for the actuator.
- Device-state reporting — may surface events or status flags indicating actuator readiness, safety limits (overcurrent, thermal), or driver-mode transitions between onboard and host-controlled operation.
