Control which physical mouse buttons are forwarded to the OS as HID reports — selectively suppress individual buttons at the firmware level so host software can handle them instead.
The mouseButtonFilter feature provides host-side control over which physical
mouse button inputs are forwarded to the operating system as HID reports. It
applies to mice and, in some configurations, multi-mode pointer devices. By
selectively masking or filtering individual buttons, this feature allows
software to suppress or redirect physical button events at the firmware level
rather than relying purely on OS-level input remapping. It is conceptually
related to features such as 0x1b04 specialKeysMSEButtons, which handles
remappable button assignments, but operates at a lower level by controlling
whether a button's raw input is reported at all.
Not implemented in OpenLogi
OpenLogi's vendored hidpp crate does not provide a typed wrapper for this feature yet. The notes below summarise the HID++ feature in general terms, not OpenLogi behaviour.
What it does
- Button filter configuration — provides functions to read and write a per-button filter mask that controls which physical buttons are allowed to generate HID input reports to the host.
- Selective suppression — individual buttons can be excluded from normal HID reporting without being remapped; the device simply does not emit a report for a filtered button press.
- Host-software integration — by filtering a button at the firmware level the host application can intercept raw HID++ events for that button and handle the action entirely in software, enabling custom behaviours that bypass the OS input stack.
- State persistence — the active filter state may be volatile (reset on power cycle) or stored in onboard memory depending on the device; the feature likely exposes functions to query and set persistence behaviour.
